Dave has 35 years of higher education public safety experience working at Gettysburg College where he holds the position of Director of Life Safety Services. He is responsible for all environmental, occupational and fire protection and education at the college. He coordinates the Campus Emergency Response Team and the overall emergency management operations and planning. Some of his other responsibilities at Gettysburg include; Clery Compliance, Close Circuit TV, Capitol Budget planning, project coordination and department administrative operations related to budgeting, fleet management, technology systems, and safety equipment/hardware.
Dave completed his Associates Degree in 2014 in Occupational Safety and Health and is an OSHA outreach instructor through the West Virginia University OSHA outreach program. He is an authorized 10 and 30 hr. instructor in General Industry and Construction. He has earned the title of OSHA Master Trainer from University of West Virginia. For the past fifteen years, Dave has provided private consulting and training on safety and health standards throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey.
In 2011, Dave was selected by the National Fire Academy as a Subject Material Expert to develop a series of Campus Fire and Life Safety courses: Risk Assessment, Public Education, and Codes and Systems. Dave delivered two pilots for Unit I Risk Assessment in Harrison, VA and Unit III Codes & Systems at the National Fire Academy in 2013. Since that time, Dave as a contract instructor has presented these NFA course across the country. He has presented these course multiple times at state fire academies in Massachusetts, Mississippi, South Carolina, Connecticut and Kansas as well as National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD.
In 2016, Dave presented two presentations at the NECUSA, Northeast Colleges and Universities Association annual conference in Cape May, MA. The first presentation was on Risk Assessment and the other on Campus Fire Safety Prevention Programing.
In 2017, Dave earned a certification as a Safety Management Specialist from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
In 2019, Dave presented at the Campus Fire Safety Conference in February in Columbus, Ohio.
Dave has conducted hundreds of tabletop and functional exercise for institutions of higher education from the senior leadership to individual department superiors. He has experience in Incident command, emergency operations centers and emergency mass notifications systems.
